Barbara Lee Park, age 73, of 528 West Lawn Blvd., Manitowoc, WI, died peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her husband of 53 years, Richard, and her 3 daughters, on Friday, April 13, 2012, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Her spirit now breathes freely in heaven.
Barbara was born Barbara Lee Burson on December 9, 1938, in Marysville, Ohio, daughter of the late Paul and Mary (Fox) Burson. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1956. On October 4, 1958, she married the love of her life, Richard Park, in Gahanna, Ohio. They joyfully celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by family at Silver Valley Supper Club in 2008.
Barbara worked for 34 years for the Manitowoc Public Schools first as an instructional aide and then for many years as the library media manager at Jefferson Elementary School. She loved her work as she loved the children, loved to read and developed many great friendships with colleagues in the district. She was active as a member and a Sunday school teacher at the First Presbyterian Church in Manitowoc, bowled with the MPS women's bowling league, enjoyed bridge club, read with the Hatrack Story Tellers, and had many great times with her 3 best friends, Claire Steffenhagen, Marion Daley, and Elaine Robinson.
She retired from the MPS district in 2000, and continued actively to read, attend her beloved grandchildren's numerous sporting events, dance recitals, band and choir concerts, and many other fun events. She doted on her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Baabaa." She and Richard became snowbirds and spent 10 glorious winters together enjoying the friends, sun, Red Hats group, and sitting poolside at Saddlebag Lake Resort in Lake Wales, Florida.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Richard, and their 3 daughters and their families: Jill and Paul Wilke and their children, Thomas and Matthew, of Appleton; Jane and Peter Hein and their children, Kate, Emily and Elizabeth, of DePere; and Molly and Dan O'Connell and their children, Morgan, Patrick and Michael, of Manitowoc. She is also survived by 3 sisters and 2 brothers: Joyce (Bill) Clark of Plain City, Ohio; Sue (Charlie) Argo and Judy Cotter of Marysville, Ohio; Jim (Jennifer) Burson of New Concord, Ohio and John (Jodie) Burson of Plain City, Ohio. She was blessed to have enjoyed a visit from her brothers and sisters in which laughter and tears were shared in December, 2011. She is also survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harold and Gloria Park of Wis. Dells, a sister-in-law Dee Burson of Marysville, Ohio and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Barbara was preceeded in death by her parents, Paul and Mary Burson; her brother, Steve Burson; her brother-in-law, Murphy Cotter; and a niece, Mary Burson.
A memorial celebration of Barbara's life is being planned for June, 2012. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made in Barbara's honor to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.

In Barbara's memory, the family requests that anyone who smokes, please stop, and anyone over the age of 60 please speak to his/her doctor and receive the shingles vaccination.
Barbara's family members would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Barylak and the staff at Aurora Oncology; The Aurora Visiting Nurse Association; and the Reverend Matthew Sauer and the First Presbyterian Church of Manitowoc for their expertise, care and compassion.

We were all friends at dear MHS and then went our separate ways, but we
did enjoy a few 1956 reunions.

Rember Barb when we were kids how we all would go to play at the play ground,then go to Chet's to get candy and ride in the ole Blue Goose. We will always have those memories and your smiling face and laugh. Y ou went through alot and now you are at peace with our LORD. Although we will miss you we can't wish you back to suffer. Rest in peace, Barbie.....we shared many memories growing up....when we were in high school, if you had a date you got me one and if I had a date I got you one.....We were pretty much inseparable for several years...fun times mostly, but some dumb times too.....

We even shared a bed for years, but don't tell anyone...heehee.....not enough beds for all of us, huh???????
