Leona "Gladdie" Fischer

Gladdie Fischer was called to her eternal home in Heaven on Monday, April 16, 2012, at the age of 94 at the Harbor House Assisted Living in Manitowoc.

Gladdie was born on February 27, 1918, in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Paul and Louise (nee Scholbe) Herrmann. She was reborn through holy baptism at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, where she was also instructed and confirmed in the true Christian faith. She served as choir director while being a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. She married Richard Leinberger on May 12, 1945, who died on September 11, 1945, while in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On July 1, 1951, she married William E. Fischer.

The Lord blessed their marriage with four children: Mark (Jean) Fischer Manitowoc; Laurie (Daniel) Sawatske, Minneapolis, MN; Christie Fischer, Cedarburg; Beth (Tod) Hauf, Manitowoc; nine grandchildren: Emily Fischer; Anne Fischer; Joseph (Johanna) Sawatske; Katie Sawatske; Tom Sawatske; David Sawatske; Amy Hauf; Katelyn Hauf; Kelly Hauf; two great-grandchildren: Lily and Griffin Sawatske; Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Paul and Louise Herrmann; her first husband: Richard Leinberger; her second husband: Rev. William E. Fischer; one sister and brother-in-law: Mildred (Carl) Rusch and one infant brother.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. Rev. Robert Kujawski and Rev. Stephen Melso will officiate. Burial will take place on Friday at Arlington Park Cemetery in Greenfield. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services at 7:00 p.m. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home is serving the Fischer family.
